Hiking: Half Dome

My dad is quite the hiker. He and my cousin, Mark had gone up to hike Half Dome and Mt. Whitney last year. Unfortunately I was still in Arizona at the time and couldn't make the trip. However, now that I am back on the central coast of ca, I was able to make a trip up to Half Dome with them this year.

It was pretty hazy from the Rim fire, but gorgeous nonetheless. Yosemite is magical. I've loved every trip I've taken there. John Muir said it best, "The mountains are calling and I must go."

Speaking of the Muir, we opted to take the John Muir Trail. A quick walk from Upper Pines campground where we stayed to Happy Isles and we were on our ascent.

The view from the top was amazing. Cables weren't as horrible as I thought - just be sure to bring garden gloves! I intended on taking photos up the cables, but I was completely distracted by the whole experience- I'll get photos of them next time =)

On the way back down we took the John Muir Trail again, to save our knees. Typically the way down always flies by for me when hiking, but not on this trip. It's a long hike so make sure you have plenty of water and good eats. The scenery will not disappoint.

So thankful for our lovely camp hosts Sid & Kareen and my cousin and dad for encouraging me to go! Can't wait to get the rest of the family and the boyfriend in on the trip next year. =)
